Know Your Audience

Danielle Dupuis Mathers of Abode Studio

As an entrepreneur, as a business, as a brand, you’re speaking to human beings. To reach your target audience effectively, you need to know WHO they are. When you figure out who you want to attract you’ll have an easier time figuring out where to find them, how to talk to them, how to market to them, and so on.

If you’re saying to yourself right now, “my target is everybody.” Please oh please, change that ASAP.  Because if that’s how you’re approaching your marketing and branding efforts, you’ll attract nobody. That’s me giving you some tough love, friends. Nobody wants to feel like just another someone. You want people saying, “it’s like you’re talking directly to me… this [product/offer/service] is exactly for me. Thank you!”

Even if you aren’t fully convinced, take a few minutes to think about your most loyal, repeat customers/clients.  What are their hobbies, values, education and/or business background, what challenges do they face, where do they go for information and resources? There you have it, the basic foundations for your customer/client persona. You can have more than one persona, but it’s best to start with one very specific persona at first.

Once you’ve established your customer persona, keep that “person” in mind in your marketing and address your messaging to them specifically. Having that persona is super important when you decide to invest your hard earned money in professional branding services such as a brand photography session. Yes, that’s my shameless plug!

During our Brand Consultation and Brand Photo Session, we want to know who your target audience is so we know how to appeal to them in our visual storytelling. The elements for achieving this include what you wear,  where we have the shoot, how we style the scene, and many more details specific to you and your business.

Now don’t you think it’s time to start on that journey to creating your “customer/client persona” so you know exactly who you’re talking to? To help you out, I’ve created a free worksheet available via download to guide you through the process. Good luck!
